G-Dragon Interview on K& Magazine

‘To some extent, I have been more relaxed. I can be said that I have more than I should have in the fields of music and life. I feel that I have been changing bits by bits. Although I am not a perfect adult yet but I am right in the middle of it.

I have told myself that ,’ I have to work hard to strive for the best in my life.’ I think it is because I have such a mindset so I can handle everything.’ One sentence from ‘Star G-DRAGON’ to ‘Young Jiyong’ ,’ Jiyong is really hardworking!~’

Q1) You don’t have any burden when your new album is released?
G-Dragon: Just a little bit. When I am doing music,I sometimes compulsive disorder to ‘always make some new music’. I think I am like this because I sense what others are perceiving me. If I want extraordinarily hard because of these expectations, I will just cannot produce good music that I want. Therefore, this album was produced not under any pressure. I just made it on my free will.
Q2 : What are the biggest differences between this one with your SOLO1?
G-Dragon : I am more relaxed this time. When I was producing the first solo album, i just wanted to convey some messages through it. The message was ’ no blood will come out even I was pinned.’ However, after trying out different kinds of music activities, I started to change and wanted to convey my real emotion that I have in my everyday’s life.
I want to express the feelings that everyone has once feel in music so I think people will feel my songs. Because I was making this album with this feeling, I felt more satisfied comparing with the time that I made my first album. If 100 are full marks, I think I at least can get 85 marks? (Laugh)
Q3 : The transformation in GDragon is ?
G-Dragon : Comparing with 3 years ago, it seems that I have handled my work better.I was like chasing after my thoughts without thinking much about the consequences before but now I think I know how to control it more. Although it looks like I am now calculating how much efforts I have paid, I am cleverer in making music now. I think it can help me to reduce the chances of errs, too.
When I am listening to SOLO 1 now, I would think, ‘why I would do the album like that?’ And there are times that I do not want to listen to it. However, if I listen to this album 3 years later, I think I will feel the same, too. When I am making music, I am growing at the same time, ain’t I?
Q4 : What is the concept of this album?
G-Dragon: To be frank, there are no special concepts. I just insert the mindset of ‘the 24-year-old G-Dragon has to keep on living’ into it. I also want to see how myself is through you., ‘G-Dragon is thinking like this.’ And ‘he is walking on the path of his life like this!’
Q5 : You composed all of the melodies and lyrics in the album.
G-Dragon : I was also very troubled as a translator since I think ,’ starting from now on, I cannot let others think that I am an amateur.’ Therefore, whenever I was free, I would write songs and lyrics.
And now my singer friends said ’ it is the music only G-Dragon can make’. Moreover, since the whole world is now concerning more about Kpop, I want to make more good songs which can be listed as classics.
Q6 : Please introduce the title song, ‘Crayon’.
G-Dragon : It is the combination between Crazy and Jiyong. It means ’ just crazy with G-Dragon like what you are crazy with other things’ and ’ let’s get crazy’. When I was producing it with Teddy, I wrote down the lyrics ‘Why So Serios?’ on the blank paper.
It is the famous line of the crown in the film ‘the Dark Knight’. I like the line very much. I want to say it to so many people, ‘why you have to be so serious?’ And I also want people to think ‘this kid has really gone crazy’ when they see my performance on the stage. Luckily, I am able to achieve all of these. PV is really interesting, too. I like it so much!
Q7 : Why you choose this as the title song?
G-Dragon: President Yang said I should choose an interesting song to be the title song. The period of producing such a song is really hard. At the very beginning, because I wanted to do what others wanted me to do, I ended up producing nothing. I was worried very much beforehand too because I could not write out the vocal part but I did it when I went out with Teddy.
When I was producing ’ Crayon’, once again I feel that I can only produce music with a light heart and when I am enjoying it. I am not saying if you have a lot of worries, you cannot produce good songs.
Q8 : You have worn a lot of costumes in the MV of ‘Crayon’, which one do you like best?
G-Dragon :The Frankenstein costumes that I wore in the second half of the MV. Since it is a gift from a designer that I love so much, I decided to wear it. Although I have worn that to dance, it was cut. I have also worn skirts like a girl! There are scenes showing a pretty girl looking back.
Because I dressed like a girl, there were loads of people asking whether it was really me. The back view was from a real girl and it was combined with my face.Because I am slim, there is such a misunderstanding! I have worn all of the costumes that I want so I am really satisfied!
Q9 ; There is your unique charm in the mv and the music of ‘One Of A Kind’!
G-Dragon : I want to show my unique side to you like it was my title song. In the song which ‘only G-Dragon can do it’ , I want to give you a free and impetuous feeling. Because it is the solo album which I have released after 3 years, I hope I can be ’one of the unique artist’.
Q10 : Is’ tha XX’ your real experience?
G-Dragon : Not all of the songs are my real experience. Everyone should have experienced love triangle before, I want to use some lyrics which is a bit sentimental to describe this feeling. If you witness your lover is having an affair, you will not say some gentle words, right?

Q11 : You label ‘that XX’ as a song which people under 18 cannot listen to…
G-Dragon: I set the borderline first. Although it was labelled like that, I don’t think the lyrics ‘that bastard’ is that tabooed. Comparing restricting myself from doing everything, isn’t it more important if I can show my thoughts to you?

Of course there are people who hate words like ‘that bastard’, I think there also have people who don’t think like this. I am just following my true self. If this song is entitled as ‘that guy’ or ‘that man’ , will the song still convey the same atmosphere?

Q12 : What do you think about the censorship system that the song’s MV had to go through before it was released?
G-Dragon: I was quite burdened. I think I should have been able to produce music which is even more out of the box, I could not finish it as what I had expected. Therefore, the MV looks a little bit plain. If it is like this, people cannot enjoy as much as they should …

Q13 :  You have collaborated with JAURIM’s Kim Eung-ah and Nell’s Kim Jong-wan.
G-Dragon : I tried to ask whether they are willing to ask and they promised to help in a very short time. I have asked for the permission of president Yang faithfully so he approved me of collaborating with Eung Ah noona to sing ‘Missing You’. Kim Jong Wan Hyun whom I sang ‘Today’ with , I knew him through Tablo hyun, though I know he is a very straight person. But in fact he is a very nice person. I have learnt loads of things after working with them.

Seeing their being able to present my products more than I myself can do, I have the feeling that ‘Aww.. no wonder they are my seniors.’ Because of this, I rethought again how I should work with the staff of my company. I also want to work with more people after this.

Q14 : The lyrics of ‘Light It Up’ is very interesting.
G-Dragon : I write the lyrics after watching ’ War Crimes’. I have also thought of including funny messages for the people who hate me. Originally I wanted to write this for a person who hates me but there are so many people dislike me, I just cannot dedicate it for a particular person.

That’s why the lyrics has now become ‘although you guys hate me, I don’t care even a bit.’ I know it is a bit naive, I just hope that you can find the lyrics cute. Because there are some cute elements in the rap starting from the very beginning.

Q15 : You have collaborated with other artists 4 songs out of the total 7!
G-Dragon: It is obviously 5 members of Big Bang has their unique charm, I will not pursuit voices other than these. Therefore, even if we want to collaborate with each other, it is kind of difficult. But since it is the solo album that I have not released for a long time, I am a little bit more greedy. (laugh)

Q16 : Who you think you must collaborate with?
G-Dragon : ‘Kim Bunjan’ of ‘Wind City’. There are songs which I have collaborated with other artists too but they are not included in this album. I thin it will be interesting too if i can collaborate with the artists of my company.

Eunhyuk Suddenly Runs out of Studio During Filming

Super Junior appeared on the special 100th episode of KBS "Hello" yesterday, sharing interesting stories.

There was a story from a wife that is worried about her husband who enjoys fermented skate every day. Fermented skate is known to be a food that requires an acquired taste, as those who like and dislike the food is clearly divided.

Super Junior members Shindong, Eunhyuk and Sungmin appeared as the guests of KBS' "Hello" for the 100th episode special. Eunhyuk, seeing the food, mentioned, "I generally don't eat fish that much." Sungmin also frowning expressed dislike for the food. Both exclaimed, "I have never tasted fermented skate before."

However as the MCs persuaded them to have a taste, Eunhyuk and Sungmin were shocked after having a taste. As MC Lee Young Ja continuously solicited them to have more the guests were reported to run away. However, Shindong who also said that he never tasted it before seemed to enjoy the food.

Kim Jaejoong “Tears Come Out When I Think of the Past”

In the interview with Nocut News, Kim Jaejoong revealed, “In the early phase of the scenario, I was just being me. Of course it was not the case in the later part of the story but I think everybody would be like that if they were kidnapped.

In the movie, there is a scene where I told Bong Minjung ‘It was so hard for me in the past. I don’t want to live that life again. I am doing just fine now.’ It’s not a scene with extreme emotion and I didn’t have to cry but I found myself shedding tears. That cut was used in the movie but it actually wasn’t in the original script. There were many before-debut stories that I couldn’t tell. Maybe my tears fell because of those thoughts.

Last time at the showcase, director Bae Hyungjoon has praised the ‘messy’ image of Kim Jaejoong. About this, Kim Jaejoong humbly said, “I think he feels relieved seeing me let go of all restrictions without hesitation.  And it seems that he liked the ad-libs [that I made]. Maybe he praised me because I has quickly adapted.

I asked if his fans were shocked by his ‘messy’ image and received a surprising answer. He said, “I think my fans like it very much as they can see various images of mine. Actually, I also thought that they would love it when I was filming.

Kim Jaejoong is expanding his territory as an actor. He said, “Acting is a new domain. The more I do it, the more I find it refreshing and attractive. It gives motivation to keep going in the future.

But it doesn’t mean that Kim Jaejoong would neglect activities as a singer. He promised, “All the members are busy with individual activities. Therefore, we are preparing in advance for new album in spare time. I’ll continue music activities as JYJ and as individual.

Like he said, JYJ members have many individual activities now. Drama of Park Yoochun is on air. Kim Junsu continues his musical activities. Like this, it cannot avoid the situation that they have to compete with each other. Even though, the presence of the members is still his great source of strength.

Kim Jaejoong expressed his honest feeling, “The members have activities in the same fields and our activities overlap. That’s why we might feel self-conscious or uncomfortable. We are trying our best not to overlap each other.

When the members have activity (album, drama), I give a lot of support and promote it a lot. But they don’t do the same to me. Recently When I was having a meal together with Junsu and my company’s staffs told him ’Shouldn’t you evidently help to promote [Jaejoong]?’ The support of the members is really my great source of strength.

G-Dragon's Father Talks About His Son's Gift

We recently reported about the gift G-Dragon made to his parents. As you might remember, he bought them a pension in Pocheon, Gyeonggi-do, which is very luxurious and has many stylish rooms paying tribute to his self-composed songs.

After the news about the inn were released, reporters approached G-Dragon's father to get more information about the generous gift of his son and his opinion on G-Dragon's career and more.

Check out the interview of G-Dragon's father below!!

G-Dragon's father interviewed by Sports Seoul:
This pension is really cool, isn't it? I think it's like heaven. My son supported me on it with money. We spent around a billion Won to make this place.
(...)
The "Crayon" Room is for Jiyong (G-Dragon). He designed everything about this room. Like interior and props. We made this place not for the money. It is the place where Jiyong and I can easily take a good rest. Jiyong has come to the pension three times so far. He came with Young Bae (Taeyang) and ate grilled meat. You can ride a duck-boat in front of our pension. He had a really good time riding it, too. They rode the boat and kept smiling. They're like… real children. I won't take any reservations for the "Crayon" Room on behalf of Jiyong. This room is kept empty for the YG Family. 2NE1 will come and visit here soon. Maybe Yang Hyun Suk will visit us as well.
The pension's name used to be "The Nemo". Because it looks like a square, Jiyong named it like that. (Note: Nemo means "square" in Korean) However, we tried to find a better name and then we thought about Jiyong's tattoo ["vita dolce" on his right forearm]. It means "sweet life" and it sounds good. About the rooms' names, it was Jiyong and my wife's idea [to give them the name of Jiyong's songs]. They wanted the most advanced names.

I can boast a lot about my son. He has been so kind since he was young. He never disobeys us. He said he wanted to do music, so I said, "Don't forget to study. You have to get good grades more than 80%." And he got. Of course he is a good boy. He's very kind to his father and mother. He said he earned lots of money, so he hoped we would live in comfort and thanked us for raising him. My wife and I have a good relationship. I think that is the reason why my son and daughter are so kind.
[During the times when Big Bang was troubled by various issues last year], I was so distressed, but I think I should be grateful that more serious things did not happen. Still, they're young, so I felt sad as well. About Daesung and Jiyong, it couldn't be entirely their fault.

Girls' Generation To Release First English Language Album In 2013

Girls' Generation is reportedly planning on releasing their first English language album sometime in 2013.

"Girls' Generation is poised to release their first album recorded entirely in English. Tentatively due for release next year by Lady Gaga‘s label, Interscope, the album will mark the group’s first serious effort to court English-speaking music fans," UK newspaper "The Guardian" reported.

The publication predicts that Girls' Generation will become the next Korean act to make it big outside of Asia. With PSY's "Gangnam Style" opening people up to listening to Korean music, the girls are expected to be received better than their first step into the Western market with their English language version of "The Boys".

The group first announced their plans for an English language album last year during a press conference in France. No specifics were given at the time.

Girls' Generation is poised to have a very busy schedule ahead of them with 3 albums coming out within a year. On November 28th, the group will be releasing their 2nd Japanese album, while in January, the girls will make their Korean comeback with their first Korean album in 1,5 years.

BIGBANG in America, Behind the Scanes With Kpop Boy Wonders

A refreshingly candid answer in the very formal, professional world of K-pop where the stars are more cute than sexy, scandals are minimal, and its stars spend years training. But this is BIGBANG — an act that rewrites most of the conventions in K-pop by composing most of their own music, go shirtless in music videos, and have found themselves in the midst of several controversies just this year alone.

Backstage, the five members are in their opening number outfits — heavy-duty, sparkling white suits looking like edgy Prince Charmings — but G-Dragon walks around without his jacket on and huge sunglasses before sitting down for some pre-show interviews where each member personifies himself in their demeanor. The elusive T.O.P., known for his low-bass timbre rapping, wears dark sunglasses and shows little emotion. The handsome Seungri sits straight up juxtaposing G-Dragon’s casual answers and laid back appearance.

Taeyang, in long braids, acts in a similar calm manner answering many questions with an impressive grasp of English similar to G-Dragon. While Daesung, the group’s charismatic powerhouse vocalist, spends most of his off-camera moments warming up his voice with lip trills. Each has his own bottle of Fiji water (with a bottle of Welch’s white grape juice for T.O.P.) with G-Dragon’s attitude seemingly not improving just minutes before show time.

The show is scheduled to begin only ten minutes behind schedule (a big difference to the 90-minute plus delay label-mates 2NE1 fell into in August) with little commotion backstage. One back-up dancer scurries out of the female dancer’s changing room, being sure to slow down and give a little bow upon passing Taeyang, but all feels calm before the final American stop of BIGBANG’s Alive Tour.

Who knows what happened in the final ten minutes before wrapping interviews to the show’s kick-off (perhaps it was the ear-shattering screams filling the sold out arena show), but when BIGBANG took the stage Friday night, G-Dragon and co. appeared in amazing spirits throughout the entire performance.

Kicking off with “TONIGHT,” the band’s frenzied electronic track, G-Dragon ran down the stage’s runway looking as if he would almost fall off the stage into the vivacious pit of fans if he hadn’t slowed himself down sooner (he repeated this same gesture several times throughout the show). The show started off with banging tracks moving quickly to “Hands Up” and “Fantastic Baby” (which peaked at No. 2 on the K-Pop Hot 100). As the show moves on, G-Dragon receives a loud response whenever his parts begin, but Daesung gets equally impressive screams. (Particularly when teasing that fans may be hearing his new solo material soon.)

Throughout the show BIGBANG took a stage approach similar to the likes of One Direction — using minimal choreography and relying more on jumping around stage and interacting with the crowd. Stage props were used minimally, but effectively. “How Gee” saw T.O.P. and G-Dragon riding around in bedazzled, upholstered segues and Daesung attaching humongous angel wings during appropriate solo track “Wings” to attach himself on a cable and essentially soar over the crowd.

BIGBANG’s musical styling ranges from hip-hop to electronic pop, but in-between tracks concertgoers saw a deeper connection to the hip-hop world with members beat-boxing for each other while the group spit raps or harmonized together (including a highlight where G-Dragon offered English verses of “Crayon,” [his solo track that peaked at No. 4 on the K-Pop Hot 100] indicating a proper English debut may not be too far away for he or BIGBANG). Concertgoers were treated to breakdancing and Taeyang’s gymnastics including a few on-stage flips.

While speaking to the crowd, the group had a tendency to sing the Jay-Z and Alicia Keys’ New York anthem, “Empire State Of Mind,” making their East Coast admiration clear. “It was really tough to get here, three flight changes,” Taeyang told the crowd of the problems his band found in the wake of Hurricane Sandy. Focusing on the positive he wrapped with, “Let’s make it unforgettable.”

Today’s male pop or hip-hop stars wouldn’t be caught dead in the flamboyant fashion the group brought for their Alive Tour (with outfits including brightly colored suit jackets and the tightest jeans imaginable). Yet the look completely works for BIGBANG with nothing sacrificed from an artistic standpoint. One got a sense of the dedication the fans (affectionately known as VIPs) when BIGBANG dropped out singing to let concertgoers take the chorus to their hit song “Haru Haru.” The fact that such a large East Coast venue could be filled with the lyrics of a song called “Haru Haru” by the concertgoers is truly remarkable in and of itself.

G-Dragon seemingly recognized his group’s amazing accomplishment with his energy never fading throughout the showcase. “You guys are amazing… I love you,” he told the audience to fans’ delights. “I promise you we will come back soon.” He spoke a similar phrase in Korean, but to lesser cheers.

But with tubs of Brooklyn Lager and bottles of Hennessy backstage following the show, regardless of whatever language they were singing in, the final American stop of BIGBANG’s Alive Tour was a success.

Ayumi Hamasaki Reveals Track List For Next Mini Album "again"
Ayumi Hamasaki will be releasing her new mini album "again" on December 8th.
The new mini album will be the 2nd release in a 5 part series of release leading up to the singer's 15th anniversary in April.
"again" will be released in a CD Only and a CD+DVD version. The DVD will include the music videos for Hamasaki's new songs "Wake me up", "snowy kiss" and "Sweet scar".
With the new release being marketed as a mini album, Ayumi Hamasaki will have one more opportunity to keep her long-running streak of years with a #1 album alive. The singer has had an album reach number one on the Oricon weekly charts every year since debuting in 1999; however, the singer's studio album "Party Queen", compilation album "A Summer Best", and last mini album "Love" have all fallen short of the #1 mark.
While some fans are concerned about Hamasaki's records and ranking, the singer is not as worried. According to her, the series of releases is more about celebrating her music, giving back to her fans who have stuck with her all these years rather than getting rankings on the charts.
